Archie's War - a concert and a request for contributions

Archie's war
On Saturday 11th October I am arranging a concert at the Victory Hall. This is in memory of my grandfather, Archibald Charles Newitt, who was in France, near to the Somme during the First World War. He was a member of a cycling company who helped with communications and other fatigue duties.  As research to tell his story, I am using a book written about their exploits.

A concert seemed a very appropriate way to remember him, as he was a magician who regularly took part in a concert party to entertain the troops- they were called "The Onions" because they were always in the soup!  Marcus Marsh is helping me to choose music, and we are putting together a choir to sing some of the well-known, and some less known songs from the period, with audience participation for the choruses, along with some solos, readings and sketches (maybe even a magician!)

I have inherited two small pocket diaries from 1915 and 1916 which serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made.  I have quite a few bits of inherited memorabilia to display, and if anyone else has photos, or memorabilia that they would be happy to add to this for the evening, I would be grateful, and I think it would make a fascinating addition to the night.

Please come along - more details will follow - and join in, whether as choir, audience or to help with refreshments - in outfits from the time if you like.
