The Evening of Praise, St Thomas’s offering to the Aboyne and Deeside Festival, has come and gone. Since then, things have been jogging along nicely, in spite of various absences, and as usual, we have always managed to sing something during Communion. We tend to keep to old favourites when the choir is so small, things like Attwood’s ‘Teach me, O Lord’, and John Goss’s ‘My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O God’. I was away for a Sunday in September, and Harold Barbour, former organist at St Thomas’s, took over again. They performed ‘Quiet my mind’, in a beautiful arrangement by Aboyne’s Bill Brown.

We will remain quiet for a little longer, and then the glories of Advent and Christmas will be upon us. This year we are again planning an evening Candlelit Communion for Advent, on December 1st, as the Christingle will take place that morning. We hope that it will again be something special. Then the Carol Service and Midnight Communion will be celebrated. A wonderful time in the Church’s Year!
