Farewell to the Rector - St Thomas’

James’s last Service in Upper Deeside was an Evensong at St Thomas’, again for all our churches. He planned this to take in all his own preferences, no canticles, but simple and relevant hymns in their place, including a Celtic Magnificat to the tune of Wild Mountain Thyme. It all worked so well. And we finished with 'Jerusalem', which James says will also begin the first Service in his new Church, providing a link between us.

At the end of the Service, Anne Harper presented James and Alice with a gift from St Thomas’s, a picture of Lochnagar, to remind them for ever of their time with us.

Afterwards there was wine (or soft drinks), a great spread of eats (our thanks to those who provided this), and a good chance to chat not only to James, but also to each other, including from the different churches. It was a happy occasion, and a good finish to James’s 7 ½ years with us.
