Lots of News and Notices as we begin Easter Week.

Services and events

  • St Kentigern's Church will be open all week and the Stations of the Cross will be up, with leaflets to guide you. Feel free to come in at any point, and spend some time walking the way of the cross.
  • Monday 30th March
    • 12 noon - Stations of the Cross, St Thomas'
  • Tuesday 31st March
    • 6 pm - Compline and Meditation, Ecumenical Service at St Kentigern's Church
  • Wednesday 1st April
    • 9 am - Morning Prayer and Meditation, St Thomas'
    • 6 pm - 'The Journey to the Cross', Ecumenical Service at St Kentigern's
  • Maundy Thursday, 2nd April
    • 11.30 am - Chrism Eucharist and Renewal of Vows St Andrew's Cathedral, Aberdeen, followed by lunch. Vittoria will be going into Aberdeen for the Chrism Eucharist and Renewal of Vows on Maundy Thursday. If anyone wishes a lift, please speak to her.
    • 6 pm - Holy Communion and Stripping of the Altar, St Thomas'
    • 9 pm - Taize Watch Hour and Stripping of the Altar, St Kentigern's
  • Good Friday, 3rd April
    • 2 pm to 3 pm -  The Last Hour at the Cross, Service of Readings and Meditation, St Thomas'
    • 12 noon to 3 pm at the Cathedral: if you are in or near Aberdeen this Friday in or near Aberdeen on Good Friday, the Three Hours’ of Addresses and Devotions from Noon to 3 pm are being led this year by the Revd Professor David Brown, FBA FRSE. David is Professor of Divinity at the University of St Andrews. His title for the addresses is ‘What difference does the death of Jesus make?’  In these addresses he’ll be reflecting on this through hymns, poetry and art from across several centuries.
  • Easter Saturday, 4th April
    • 6.30 pm - Easter Vigil and Bonfire, followed by refreshments
  • Easter Sunday, 5th April
    • 9.30 am - Easter Communion followed by Easter Egg Hunt, St Kentigern's
    • 11.15 am - Easter Communion and StomP extra, St Thomas'.  StomP children and any visitors will meet in the Community Centre for a crafts session, joining us for the service at communion. You can take children either direct to the Community Centre for 11.15 am or to St Thomas’s and someone will be there to take them across.

Notices:

  1. There will be a church yard tidy and litter pick on Saturday 4th April from 10 am to 12 noon. The church will also be decorated for Easter at this time. Please come along and help if you can and bring daffs and foliage.
  2. Easter bonnets – you are welcome to come dressed in your finest Easter bonnet next Sunday.
  3. There will be a training day for those interested or already involved in Pastoral visiting on May 2nd in Banchory. If you would like to attend, or just want to think about the idea, please speak to Vittoria. There is a poster up on the noticeboard.
  4. The green noticeboard has been given a facelift - cleaned inside and out. We have posters for different times of the year, and space to advertise events - it looks a lot happier!
  5. And inside church, courtesy of part of Dr John Anderson Trust grant, we have a table and chairs in the children’s corner of the church - animal themed - sourced by the Family Worship Group.
  6. Notice from +Bob: "As from 1st April coming the Revd Dr Richard Hines is to be the interim Episcopalian Chaplain at Aberdeen Hospitals. So if you have anyone from your congregation who is in hospital do please contact Richard on richard.hines@outlook.com and Richard will visit on behalf of our church.  If you haven’t picked up the news recently Richard and his wife Jen figure significantly in the BBC programme Island Parish (broadcast on Friday evenings, BBC 2 at 8pm Well worth watching. Editor). The programme features their ministry at Christ Church Cathedral, Stanley, Falkland Islands. My blessings, +Bob"
