St Thomas’ Harvest celebrations

St Thomas’s Harvest celebrations took the form of a simplified Communion Service to suit the occasion. Traditional harvest hymns were sung with enthusiasm, and the liturgy included the singing of the Peruvian Gloria, and a Deeside Sanctus. During Communion, the choir sang that harvest favourite, Handel’s ‘O Lovely Peace’, commonly known as the ‘wavy corn’ because of the repetition of the words towards the end of the piece.

The church was beautifully decorated with flowers and offerings for harvest, vegetables, fruit, and tins of food, and the children brought up more gifts during one of the hymns.

All the gifts went to the Cyrenians afterwards, faithfully packed up by Warren and Sue. The collection went towards the work of WaterAid. The Service was followed by a ‘bring and share’ lunch, organised by Jo Elson and her helpers - many thanks to all, it was a lovely lunch, and a good opportunity to mix and socialise informally.
